The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to PEOPLE that the incident happened at around 9:06 a.m.
When the SWAT team were called to respond to the situation, Spelling and her kids were forced to evacuate as officers surrounded the home.
The man responsible for the incident allegedly threatened to shoot law enforcement with a rifle in a tense standoff, police said.
Spelling could be seen watching the situation unfold behind yellow tape alongside neighboring homeowners and taking phone calls while the standoff occurred. Luckily, nobody was harmed and the suspect was taken into custody without causing any damage.
The ordeal comes amid the actress’ separation from her estranged husbandDean McDermott, with whom she shares her children:Liam, Stella, Hattie, Finn, Beau and Jack.

In a now-deleted Instagram post back in June, McDermott announced that the couple decided toseparate after 18 years of marriage.
“It’s with great sadness and a very very heavy heart that after 18 years together and 5 amazing children, that @torispelling and I have decided to go our separate ways and start a new journey of our own,” he wrote.
The actor, 56, continued, “We will continue to work together as loving parents and guide and love our children through this difficult time. We ask that you all respect our privacy as we take this time to surround our family with love and work our way through this. Thank you all for your support and kindness. 🙏.”
Since their separation, Spelling has experienced her share of terrible living situations.

In May, theSaved By The Bellstar and her children moved out of their home after discovering a mold infection that was resulting in a “continual spiral of sickness” for her family.
She documented the ordeal on Instagram, where she revealed that her family visited urgent care after they had a pattern of getting sick, just to “get better. To get sick again.”
“As we sit here today in Urgent Care … watching everyone getting swabbed and first up Finn with Strep throat and high fever of 103,” she wrote alongside a photo of them getting treated. “We now know that when the house was labeled a health hazard and not live able that wording was FACT. We now GET IT.”

“It’s hard to just uproot a huge family especially in [the] midst of all feeling so sick and in bed. But, we now will vacate the home asap,” she continued, referencing her separation.
The Los Angeles native said she’ll admittedly now look “for an @airbnb or @vrbo or hotel till we can even grasp what to do.” In reference to her future plans, Spelling described how “we are just renters so looks like moving is in our eminent future as well. Grateful we have renters insurance. We’d be lost how to tackle this without.”
A rep for Spelling did not immediately reply to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
