Gavel the German Shepherd was deemed too sociable for life on the force, so he’s now officially been made Vice-Regal Dog instead.

The old maxim that “ nice guys fetch up last ” may often be genuine of humans , but probably does n’t enforce to dogs .
This has perhaps never been more evident than in the font of Gavel , the German Shepherd and former constabulary wienerwurst trainee who was fired for being too friendly for the job — only to find an even good attitude alternatively .

Last year , when he was just a pup , Gavel started training to be a police dog in Queensland , Australia . “ In 16 months Gavel will be tracking and catching crook as a proud member of the Queensland Dog Squad!”saida law pressure liberation at the time .
However , Gavel ’s handler found that he was too sociable — that he “ did not exhibit the necessary aptitude for a life history on the front line ” — and thus the German Shepherd ’s days as a police dog came to an last .
