A man was pulled over for running a red light in Houston, Texas — and police discovered a gunshot victim, whom the driver said he was trying to help, in the car with him.
On Friday, the Houston Police Department (HPD) reportedly began investigating a shooting a block away from the city’s Minute Maid Park, where the MLB’s Astros play.
HPD told KTRK that they believe two men were victims of the shooting, which they said began at 6 p.m. in the area of Rothwell Street. KRIV reported that the incident is believed to have happened at a second location as well.
The first victim was a man in his 40s who was shot in both legs. He later took himself to a local hospital for treatment, per KRTK. He was in stable condition and claimed he was robbed, according to KPRC.

A second reported victim, described as a man in his 30s, was also discovered when police pulled over a black BMW in a traffic stop for running a red light near Houston’s Incarnate Word Academy, per KRTK.
HPD told the outlet that the man had gunshot wounds in his torso, hands and both arms, and that the driver reportedly tried to help him.
The outlet also reported that the driver claimed he may have fired shots, and KPRC reported that the driver picked up the victim around 6 p.m. near an abandoned building. Five minutes from the traffic stop, police located a second crime scene at an abandoned warehouse on Rothwell.

According to KPRC, officers performed lifesaving measures on the second victim after they pulled the car over, and before he was taken to the hospital.
The Houston Police Department did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for more information on Sunday.
Police told the local outlets that they believe the two shootings are likely connected.
