SincePretty Little Liarswent on air in 2010, the show has become as known for its trendy style as its insane plotlines (ugh, will they save Hanna or not?!). So, just how do they pull off those cute heels while running through the woods? PeopleStyle went behind-the-scenes on thePLLset to get the full scoop on their looks from costume designerCameron Dale, just in time for the seventh season premiere tonight on Freeform at 8/7ct.
Dale, who previously created Rachel Bilson’s super-cute look onHart of Dixieand joined the show in season six, opened up her costume truck for our cameras, offering up a tour of exactly how she stores the hundreds of pieces she uses on set. Her approach is to continue the Liars’ of-the-moment look, but with a more mature twist.
“ThePLLstyle is on-trend, colorful, and we do a lot of layers, which I think is great,” Dale says of her approach to the seventh season. “So throughout the day, the girls will almost always have a jacket layer and a really cute purse. We’re always fully accessorized, too, so I think it’s always just a really cute, pulled-together day look.”

As it happens, she stores some secrets in her truck — and that’s not even counting the warehouse she also has with racks and racks of costumes from previous episodes and seasons. For example, Spencer (Troian Bellisario) likes glitter socks with her loafters and Aria (Lucy Hale) is not-so-secretly obsessed with belts. Ashley Benson, who plays Hanna, borrowed one of the jackets her character wears this season for a weekend … and, yes, she gave it back. Alison (Sasha Pieterse) is a huge fan of Rebecca Taylor floral jackets. And Emily’s plaid — oh, it’s there in droves.
