Ah , I hazard we ’ve reach out that degree , have n’t we ? We ’ve already learn that conspiracy theorists want to find somewhat moreuniquethan their intellectual counterparts .   Now ,   it also turns out they ’re more potential to be “ also-ran ” .

But expect ! Let ’s clarify here . We ’re not talking about the derogatory form of the word losers . Rather , the study notes that people whose candidate loses an election are more potential to wrick to conspiracy theories . Ah !

This is based on a newfangled study in the journalPolitical Research Quarterlythat looked at the behavior of people before and after an election . Led by Jack Edelson from the University of Wisconsin - Madison , the researcher used a survey of 1,230 Americans , which was conducted before and after the 2012 US presidential election . So , not Trump .

The findings were quite interesting . Prior to the election , 62 pct of multitude said that if their nominee lost , they thought elector role player would be involved . But after the election , only 39 percent believed the same . Obama , of course , gain that election , so Republicans were more likely to think that some sort of voter manipulation was at play .

What ’s more , people who were   more likely to think in confederacy theories predicted that if their candidate lost , it would be part because of elector fraudulence .

“ confederacy theory are for losers , ” co - author Joseph Uscinski from the University of Miami toldPsyPost . “ confederacy theories come after the ebb and flow of power and losers tend to circulate them the most . ”

Now , observe Trump ’s triumph , the shout of elector fraud are derive from the left . To us , things seem a bit different this fourth dimension around though . Republicans in 2012 cried foul when sure territory seem to show 100 pct of their voting went to Obama .

There was agood reasonfor this though , namely that some of these districts had elector turnouts as miserable as 139 in heavily Democrat - supporting region . No evidence of election rigging has ever been found .

Compare that to now , and there are a lot of rather redoubtable house that Russia play a part in Trump ’s election . investigation are still ongoing , but depend at these two election together might not be the fairest comparison .

Two separate studies in August found that people who believed in confederacy hypothesis did so because theywanted to palpate unique . Maybe , after their candidate has fall behind an election , that desire is outstanding than ever .
